CHINESE PLOT TO KILL THE DALAI-LAMA: ALL RUBBISH ?

Editorial : A few words from the editor.

Though I am desesperately growing old and my memory keeps on weaking day by day, I remember these days at the beginning of the mid-90's when His Holiness The Dalai-Lama had to suffer from death threats. Some rogue Tibetans coming from mainland China tried to attempt to His life. Or so was it said. They proved to be unsuccesful, fortunately. Yet a higher monk in the buddhist hierarchy, the head of the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics, and a close friend and ally of the Dalai-Lama, perished murdered in horrible circumstances.

As manifestations against the Dalai-Lama were rife and the situation tense, martial law had to be declared by the Indian authorities. I was there in Dharamsala (H.P.). And I went through the riots  - as a simple eye-witness not as a victim. Most of the Tibetans there were terrorised. They dared not going out alone and often seeked my help.

People talked about these rogue Tibetans as "Chinese spies" ... Others added that somme sort of "manipulation" was going on... Then after one long week of martial law in Dharamsala, all came back to normal - or nearly ...

How Real is Threat to Dalai Lama’s Life?

So how real is the threat to the life of the Dalai lama from female Chinese agents?

Tibet’s spiritual leader told Britain’s Sunday Telegraph that sources inside China’s Tibetan regions had told his entourage that fake female devotees might be coming to try to kill him with poisoned scarves and poisoned hair.

Chhime Chhoekyapa, a spokesman for the Dalai Lama, told India Real Time on Monday that the Tibetan government-in-exile doesn’t have any way of knowing whether the threat is real or not. He said the Dalai Lama receives periodic warnings of plots on his life similar to the latest threat.

China Rubbishes Dalai Lama Death Plot

A Chinese government spokesman, at a regular briefing Monday, termed the claims “sensational allegations” that were “not even worth refuting.” At another point he called them “groundless remarks.”

The Tibetan community in India also didn’t exactly back the allegations.

A love of guns, bouts of anger, a devious assassination plot – the Dalai Lama is full of surprises. And then there is his lifelong interest in science, for which he is being awarded the £1m Templeton Prize.

Excerpt: Tomorrow he will be in London to receive the Templeton Prize at St Paul’s Cathedral. The honour is awarded annually to someone who has encouraged common ground between science and religion – Mother Teresa was its first recipient – and, with its £1.1 million purse, is by some measure the world’s largest prize. The Dalai Lama will announce how he is to spend the money during the ceremony. The award follows the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize for his commitment to non-violence, and highlights his championing of science as a vital element in religious life.

Chinese training Tibetan women to poison Dalai Lama?

Sun May 13 2012 08:36:26 GMT+0200 (Paris, Madrid (heure d’été)) by IANS

Dharamsala/London, May 13 (IANS) Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has spoken of a threat to his life from Chinese agents, saying there were reports that Tibetan women are being trained to harm him.

The Dalai Lama’s office based in Dharamsala, where the Tibetan government-in-exile is headquartered, Sunday confirmed that “there is a threat perception to his life”.

“His Holiness himself received messages (about the threats),” the Dalai Lama’s private secretary Chimme Choekyappa told IANS.

In an exclusive interview with this week’s Sunday Telegraph in Britain, the 76-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner revealed he had received reports from inside Tibet warning that Chinese agents had trained Tibetan women for a mission to poison him while posing as devotees seeking his blessings.

The Tibetan Buddhist leader said he lives within a high security cordon in his temple palace grounds in Dharamsala, in the Himalayan foothills, on the advice of Indian security officials.

However, security officials here said from time to time they are reviewing his security.

“Whenever there are some sort of intelligence inputs about perceived threats, we review His Holiness’ security thoroughly. If there are any loopholes found in the security, they are plugged,” Director General of Police I.D. Bhandari said.

The Dalai Lama told the Sunday Telegraph: “We received some sort of information from Tibet. Some Chinese agents training some Tibetans, especially women, you see, using poison - the hair poisoned, and the scarf poisoned - they were supposed to seek blessing from me, and my handtouch.”

He said suspicion of Chinese interference in finding his reincarnation following his death meant he may be the last Dalai lama and that Tibetans could decide to abandon the institution.

A number of young Buddhist monks, including the Karmapa lama, could emerge as the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, he said.

Despite frosty relations with Beijing, he said he believes China will change its hardline stance within his lifetime and adopt democratic reforms to safeguard its economic growth.

The Dalai lama will receive the 1.1 million pound Templeton Prize at St Paul’s Cathedral in London Monday for his championing of science as a vital element of religious life.

Dalai Lama on high alert for Chinese-trained Tibetan women on a mission to kill him:

report Says he received report that fake followers would try to kill him by applying poison to their hair and clothes

By Braden Goyette / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

The Dalai Lama is on high alert after receiving reports that Chinese agents have trained Tibetan women for a mission to assassinate him.

The 76-year-old Nobel Laureate says he was warned that fake devotees would attempt to kill him by applying poison to their hair or clothes and then getting the Dalai Lama to touch them during a blessing.

"We received some sort of information from Tibet," he said in an interview with the UK's Sunday Telegraph newspaper. "Some Chinese agents training some Tibetans, especially women, you see, using poison - the hair poisoned, the scarf poisoned - they were supposed to seek blessing from me, and my hand touch."

The Tibetan Buddhist leader, who has been in exile in India since 1959, has a high-security perimeter around the grounds of his temple in the Himalayan foothills.

Tensions between Tibet and China have grown this year in the wake of a large number of self-immolations by Tibetan protesters, the newspaper noted.

At least 34 Tibetans have set themselves on fire in the past year in protest of the Chinese government's treatment of the religious and cultural minority, according to the BBC.
